Also known as ‘job analysis’, ‘functional analysis’, ‘capability analysis’. Jobs and functions are defined in order to: create or strengthen job descriptions; provide criteria for recruitment; enable organisations to assess current levels of skill; act as a starting point for training design; complement reward levels. We have analysed dozens of roles over the years including: civil engineers, product managers, buyers, project managers, fitness instructors, life coaches, sales executives, bank managers (retail & investment), food technologists, coffee shop managers, children’s shoe fitters, training consultants, nursery managers and many more. It’s a facilitated discussion. The output of the discussion is analysed, probed and framed as standards. We also strengthen the output by comparing against relevant external qualifications and standards.

Performance consultancy involves an investigation of what is going on in the workplace in order to recommend solutions – both training and non-training – to improve performance. It’s a bit like peeling an onion. You peel back the layers to uncover the core. Training is one solution but not the only one. Performance improvements are more likely when accompanied by other types of organisational support such as consequence management, reward, resources etc. We have a lot of experience in the field and learned the tools of the trade in the US. A pragmatic approach underpinned by theory and common sense. This is not a lengthy process but you need to know what you are looking for and work with skill and care for people to trust you.

We have drawn up standards for different roles, at different levels across a number of organisations. This has involved both internal and external accreditation at levels ranging from NVQ to Masters.
